This position is within the Onshore Renewables market sector of the Power and Energy division. This market sector specializes in renewable projects related to wind, solar and battery storage. We work in collaboration with public and private sector clients on innovative projects that allow our team members to prove their expertise and to train a new generation of passionate people.



In order to meet these growth challenges, WSP is currently looking for a Lead Wind Energy Analyst to join its Renewable Resource Assessment Team in Denver, CO.  The following locations will also be considered: Portland, OR, Boston, MA, Irvine, CA, San Diego, CA, Seattle, WA, Chicago, IL, Albuquerque, NM, Houston, TX and North Palm Beach, FL.



As a Lead Wind Energy Analyst, you will be responsible for data analysis, meteorological modelling, project design and energy modelling for existing and proposed utility-scale wind energy projects across North America. This position is ideal for an individual with an aptitude and passion for technical data analysis and renewable energy. 


Your Impact



  • Collaborate with the WSP field staff and WindServerTM team to develop meteorological deployment plans. 

  • Analyze meteorological and production data using in-house scripts and software tools.

  • Wind flow modelling using various techniques (e.g. CFD, Meso-scale). 

  • Configure and perform wind resource calculations.

  • Assess facility performance based on technology and climate.

  • Calculate uncertainty bounds through a statistical analysis of measurements and models.

  • Evaluate renewable energy technologies for best economics.

  • Evaluate the performance of operational wind farms.

  • Shadow flicker and noise emission calculations.

  • Turbine selection and layout optimization for lowest cost of energy and project risk.

  • Complete climate suitability calculations for the purpose of turbine load and lifetime extension calculations.

  • Offer clients technical guidance through emails and phone calls.

  • Mentor junior to intermediate colleagues and review work produced by team members.

  • Organize and document geospatial data. Generate maps and perform calculations using GIS software.

  • Complete research and process development with the goal to continuously improve energy assessment methodologies and product offerings.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.


Who You Are


Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, meteorology, mathematics, statistics, or closely related discipline.

  • 10+ years of experience in the wind energy industry or meteorology field

  • Experience with evaluating and understanding meteorological phenomenon is considered an asset.

  • Pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach to problem solving.

  • Affinity for improving workflow processes; the ability to balance standardization while increasing processes efficiency and quality.

  • Strong professional work ethic.

  • Effective communication and inter-personal skills for client and team interactions.

  • Eager to work and guide fellow team members.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, OneNote).

  • Independently plan work schedule and effectively manage individual responsibilities and projects with quick turn-around times.

  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills 

  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.


Preferred Qualifications 



  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.

  • Professional Engineering License 

  • Experience with offshore wind 

  • Proficiency with programming languages is considered an asset. In particular, Matlab and Python.

  • Proficiency with wind flow modelling software such as Meteodyn 


Expected Salary (all locations): $95,000 - $200,000


WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. Expected Salary (Colorado only): $89,200 - $188,000
